I did start looking this up, as with another post by you, things mounted up, and the Forum got put on a back burner.

I have to assume you are aware of other works by her, and her genre. I was assuming you did not need all I found earlier. Was it just this title only?

Assuming just this title only, but let me know if you need more about her other works.

The is sometimes just mentioned as Cleve Hall Longmans, Green, & Co, London, 1886 as you say. The hardcover has a light jade-blue cloth with ornate titles and decorative illustration.

As you say the gilt title-block to spine states 'Sewell's Tales and Stories' series.

There are 472 pages plus publisher's ads section at rear.

The condition would possibly be found with book plate, as her works were often presented as many books of this era as prizes. Her works titles and content were considered suitable for School and Church prizes, but I shall not go further about her works unless you need them.

I could obtain a copy but would describe it as reading copy even though it is 1886 for £25. (More if overseas post were added.

I think the prices possibly reflect the lack of available copies, though similar copies may be picked up between £2 and £5 in charity shops on occasions. So I am not certain of the price of a pristine copy at this time.

If speculating though I would assume double for the increase between good condition and very good condition, so £40 £45 possibly for a fine or near fine example. Some dealers treat books of this age as bespoke items if they have survived well, and have a small following even.

This is understandable as once damage or deterioration occur value is lost or reduced. That said the premium is often multiplied beyond normal calculations for differences in condition of the same book. As I stated this is hyperthetical, as at this time I have not uncovered any Fine or very good copies.

Let me know if you need more details on the condition of the copy I am aware of.
I did not go too deeply into prices of other titles of similar age and condition to check £25 is excessive, but assume the price about correct as there was on easily found second copy.

Thank you again for your information on this book and sorry for delay as i was away. You are right in that there looks to have been a bookplate at the front that has been removed. The condition is not pristine so i guess a good reading copy would be a better description of it's condition. I haven't any more by this author but thank you again.

That was coincidental that yours also has a book plate. I merely mention the one I found had, and many of this genre do. The point we both agree on condition wise, what would fit into good reading copy, does get advertised at £20 to £30 instead of £5 to £6 just because they are known to be the only ones on the internet available.

I did not know that you had a copy, (let alone one with a bookplate)I thought you may be trying to source a copy for someone.

Not sure if the old E.S.P. was working or not there??

Thanks also for you comments on Blogs, what do you feel it would take the format of. The original site had an articles page, similar to this Forum page, but as stated in a reply to you, it got removed as no one used it then.

I was thinking more of a diary style blog where members could post a few lines on the week they had experienced relating to books; perhaps for example talking of any new finds, interesting bookshops thsy had visited, articles they had read etc.
The blog might be better aimed at attracting interested readers, therefore more visitors to the site than responses to the blog.
