Title: casino royale, 1953 first edition 1st/1st Author: ian fleming Price: GBP 0.00 Publisher: cape Published: 1953 Edition: 1 (ITEM ON HOLD)
...really impressively fresh original colours on this Casino Royale first edition dustwrapper. Someone else on the site states that, " In December 2003 at Bloomsburys Book Auctions in London -a first edition dust- jacket ONLY (Cape UK 1953)of Casino Royale sold for a staggering 13,000 pounds".
This is for dustwrapper only.
- The one offered here is an ex-library edition; the most valuable part of the Casino first-edition, the true first printing was different from the later first/2nd and first edition/3rds printings. It had no reviews printed on the inside flap - the 1st state was blank (on bottom half of flap), with no review, just the price - showing this as you can see to be the original and rarest version, the very first edition, first-state dustwrapper from 1953. - Slight discolouration along the very top edge of the dustwrapper and top edge of the spine of the dustwrapper, and some selotape removal furring to extreme edge of inner flaps. Rear panel still very bright, with just a very light dusting of the usual foxing. The library also sadly folded & trimmed the very top and bottom edges of the dustwrapper to fit it into a protective sleeve, trimming from just on the lower edge of the cape logo on the bottom of the side edge, leaving a little still folded over on the bottom edge. - While unfortunate, this original sleeve has had the effect of completely protecting it from any soiling from handling, virtually untouched since 1953. It has also protected the colours of the cover, so that it is remarkably vivid and fresh, presenting an extraordinarily clean & impressive sight. - While not perfect, the protective sleeve has kept it in an exceptionally clean condition, - it's hard to find any Casino 1st that really stands out from the rest, but this must surely be among the cleanest and brightest that you'll come across - even some of the most expensive examples you see have been darkened by sweat staining and rubbed from even the lightest of handling since 1953. Another copy with an "exceptionally bright" wrapper is advertised on abebooks now at 75,000 pounds, with a collection of firsts in first wrappers not far below that at 65 thousand pounds.
- This is a genuine original dustwrapper, from one of the most sought-after books on the planet, just waiting to be matched with your original first, or collection should you have one. Happy of course to have verification somewhere of your choice in London. - Look for yourself on Abe books etc for comparisons, copies with original dustwrapper are offered from around 12,500. Not perfect, ..but quite beautiful. - Mail for more info/pics/trades etc,
